Growing up in Dondra, he developed from the cheeky child into the dutiful son, who was beginning to fulfil his academic potential as an incredibly high achieving student, managing to even achieve astounding top marks in his O-levels across the entirety of Sri Lanka.

Soon after their marriage in 1958, Thilak and Malini had their first daughter, Lakmali on the 8th January 1962. Five years later, they had their second daughter, Shyama, on the 7th May 1965 and completed their family on the 8th August 1966 with the birth of their third daughter, Chamari.
Thilak and Malini were blessed with seven grandchildren, Amila, Lahiru, Vinura, Isuru, Natalie, Riviru and Amanda; and two great-grandchildren, Vidhula and Sehansa.

A message from the grandchildren/great grandchildren:
Our dearest Seeya was the greatest grandfather a child could ask for.
A man who spread his love and generosity across each and every one of us, since we were born, and gave nothing short of everything and anything we needed and desired.
He went above and beyond to help, entertain, care, love and provide for us – doing all he could and more. He made us smile, laugh, feel safe and special, up until his final moments. No matter his physical condition, the moment he saw us he would greet us with the most powerful and nurturing hug and kiss our forehead.
Sharing his blood meant sharing his compassion, thoughtfulness, lovingness and benevolence throughout us all. Not a single moment spent with him left us without an amazing memory for us to cherish for eternity. A truly tender-hearted grandfather who taught us how to see the best in things and how to treat everyone with kindness and love, unconditionally.
Our beloved role model. Our beloved mentor. Our Seeya
